Complete Fly Coverage – from Poll to Tail

Posted on April 20, 2020November 7, 2023 by Horse Lover

It hasn’t gotten hot yet. Here on the East Coast, it has gotten pleasant. Pleasant enough we can

enjoy a glass of wine while sitting on tack trunks, without getting eaten alive by bugs. Although it

seems the days of misery at the wings of those tiny flying varmints are a long time away, they

are really right around the corner – waiting to bomb you and your horse with unrelenting tourture.

While you can escape into the peaceful air conditioning, your horse is out in the path of those

tiny unrelenting fangs with no escape – 24/7.

So how can you make their life more enjoyable? Or at least have them be in a better mood to

perform pristine 20 meter circles and 5 stride lines? The answer is pole to tail protection (with

some barn management measures thrown in).

When thinking of physically covering them poll to tail with fly sheets, we want to make sure it’s

with products that are durable, breathable, and comfortable. The ComfiTec Airflow II from

Weatherbeeta definitely checks all those boxes. It features a polyester outer material that is soft

yet rugged, shoulder gussets and adjustable/removable straps for flexible fit, and

cooling/breathable UV protection against the sun’s coat damaging rays.

If you need a little color in your life (or need a distinguishing factor like “please go catch the

horse in the beautiful light blue fly sheet), Rambo brings you the Hoody Vamoose. Like the Weatherbeeta sheet, it is comfortable, adjustable, full

coverage, and UV protective. And it’s compatible with the waterproof blanket liner.

Fly sheets do an amazing job of covering the large areas of the horse. Neck, shoulder, back,

belly, butt, tail (and you can extend the coverage to their face and legs with a fly mask and leg

guards, like the full face coverage of the Flymask Plus by Rambo and the

Cashell Crusader Leg Guards.

but have you ever seen the spaces flies can fit into? Like, when all you’ve done is open your door

for a second to scurry inside yet, somehow, there is a housefly that has snuck in to terrorize

you? The same applies to your horse. Having the coverage from creams and sprays ensures

your horse is protected in those sneaky (but sensitive) areas that the material just can’t cover.

Swat Ointment is

perfect to coat and protect the bare areas where little pests like to feast. It repels and kills flies

that like to latch onto sensitive areas like between your horse’s hind legs, in their ears, near their

face, and around wounds.

A quick coating with a fly spray (like the natural Summer Defense Marigold Spray by EQYSS)

or the long lasting protection of Pyranha Equine Spray and Wipe

will ensure that every last hair is has the ultimate fly control coverage you can provide.

And if you want to go the extra mile to ensure you get that perfect canter depart every time (I

hope you all know I’m kidding about fly protection being the ultimate training aid… kinda), go

ahead and install a fly trap at the entrance of the barn (like the super convenient Starbar Trap N Toss Fly Trap

pand some fly tape above their stall (like the Fly Ribbon by Catchmaster.)

With all that Horseloverz has to offer to protect your horse against those pesky pests, you’ll be

sure to happily enjoy tack trunk socializing well into the heat of the summer.
