Give Your Horse A Hug!

Posted on March 6, 2020November 7, 2023 by Horse Lover

Here on the East Coast, we are preparing for the season of continuous blanket changing. Where overnight they need a medium, mornings are a sheet, by noon a fly sheet is in order, and as soon as the sun goes down, we are shivering while we throw the mediums back on. And of course, many of the horses have gotten their spring-do’s, aka freshly clipped to prepare for the upcoming show season. This all is a true recipe for shoulder rub disaster and wither discomfort.

That is… until you get more HUGS in your barn life.

And no, I’m not talking about those personal-space intrusions. I’m talking about the HUGS brand of blankets. They offer a super awesome design, where instead of closing in the front – virtually locking down the movement of the shoulder – they have overlapping chest panels that clip in with an elastic attachment further up the shoulder. This allows complete coverage while freeing up movement and reducing pressure.

Basically they let your horse “horse” better, like…

  • They can run across the field to greet you (aka, get a peppermint) without shoulder restriction or pressure on their withers
  • They can graze without having the blanket or fly sheet pulling on their withers
  • They can kick at flies without getting shoulder rubs
  • They can lay down/get up/slide to the left/slide to the right without feeling like they are in a straight jacket

And of course all of these benefits mean that they will forever be in debt to you because of how caring and considerate you have been with your brilliant purchase, right? Well, maybe not, but they will definitely be happier to not have sore muscles and rubbed skin. Good thing HUGS has your horse completely covered and protected for all the Spring weather changes, including waterproof turnouts in heavy, medium, and lightweights to keep them warm, plus fly sheets with UV reflective properties that keep them cool.
